Imām as-Saʿdī said:
The fact that the time of his emergence is unknown indicates that no believer can feel secure from the possibility of encountering it. This is a real possibility, and his evil and fitnah are something to be feared. Therefore, the servant is in constant need of seeking protection from his fitnah by every means—through duʿāʾ, through seeking refuge in Allah, and through fearing his trial. This is necessary for all levels and segments of this ummah.
This belief is firmly rooted (ʿaqīdah thābitah), to the extent that if the event were to occur, and its occurrence become a reality, then this ummah—specifically those connected to sound and correct ʿaqīdah—would be able to defend itself against his evil and be protected from his fitnah.
On the other hand, if the fear of him were to vanish from people’s hearts, the fitnah would only increase when that time comes. And the believers would have no substantial īmān by which to repel his evil and overcome his trial.
